linen: a fabric woven from the woody flax fibers of the Linum plant. Linen fibers range from a few inches to one yard and are much stronger and more lustrous than cotton. Unless blended with manufactured fibers, linen wrinkles easily. Linen will be a bit stiff at first, but will grow softer with each washing. Linen is one of the oldest textile fibers; the finest linen comes from Belgium.
