Jerzy Jedrysiak (pronounced yen-dri-siak)
Saturday, Sept 19 - Sunday, Oct 25, 2009

Using carved linoleum, Jerzy Jedrysiak creates intricate and poetic linocut prints. Although his prints are black and white, the rhythmic lines and the stark contrast of dark and light impart a colorful nature. Highly influenced by his natural surroundings in the mountain town of Zakopane and the region's folklore, Jedrysiak creates a rich narrative of his world — both real and imagined.

Please note that the first 3 prints will be on view at the show, other prints may be seen by appointment.

PRINTMAKING 101
t e r m s    &   t y p e s

linocut:An abbreviation of "linoleum cut", the linocut technique is a derivation of the woodcut; however, because of the supple, relatively soft properties of the linoleum, linocuts have different characteristics. The material takes all types of lines, but is most suited to large designs with contrasting dark and light flat tints. The material is cut with small pen-like tools, which have mushroom-shaped handles. The tools have a variety of forms: straight and rounded edge, double pointed, as a chisel or V-shaped chisel, etc. As on a woodcut, the relief parts of the block are inked. For printing a large number of important proofs, the lino is attached to a wooden block. Color printing is done with several lino blocks.
